Wondering about the Amex Gold Card annual fee? Here’s an overview of what it would cost for you – and any Additional Card Members – to carry the Gold Card.

At-A-Glance

  • The annual fee is charged on your Card anniversary date, and the charge will appear on your monthly billing statement.
  • Card Members can add up to five additional Gold Cards with no annual fee.

If you’ve always been drawn to no-fee credit cards, you may be surprised to learn that the benefits of some credit cards can outweigh their annual fee. For the American Express® Gold Card, this is the case.

Let’s take a closer look at the Gold Card and learn more about its $325 annual fee1, how the fee works, and the benefits that come with the Card.

Terms apply to all benefits listed below. All benefits are subject to change.

What Is the American Express Gold Card Annual Fee?

The Gold Card has a $325 annual fee.1 Though paid annually, the math works out to about $27 a month. That’s less than what it would cost to pay for a $2 coffee, five days a week, all year.

When Is My Gold Card Annual Fee Charged?

Amex charges the annual fee on your Card anniversary date, and the charge will appear on your monthly billing statement.

So, if you opened your Gold Card on July 25, the fee will be charged that day and every July 25 going forward – as long as your account is open. Amex offers a 30-day grace period for cancellations so if next year rolls around and you’d prefer to upgrade, downgrade, or close your Card account, you can choose to do so within 30-days of your annual fee being charged and get a refund. For cancellations after this 30-day period, the annual fee is non-refundable.

What About Annual Fees for Additional Gold Card Members?

Gold Card Members can add Additional Card Members – also known as authorized users – as long as the individual is over the age of 13 and never had a defaulted account with American Express. Additional Card Members are considered users on your Card account and do not have their own account with American Express.

Gold Card Members can add up to five Additional Cards without an annual fee. The annual fee for the sixth (or more) Additional Card Member(s) is $35 for each Card.

It’s important to remember that the primary Card Member is responsible for all Additional Card Member activity, meaning you are responsible for paying all charges they make. And if you’d like, you can set a limit as low as $200 for the Additional Card Member.
