Amex provides colleagues with paid time off (PTO) so you have time to enjoy life outside of work.

Paid Time Off

Amex provides colleagues with paid time off (PTO) from work for vacation, holidays and other personal needs, and encourages employees to plan for time off annually. Holidays (like Thanksgiving or Christmas, for example) are included in the annual PTO hours calculation.

Vacation Purchase

During Annual Enrollment each fall, you can purchase up to five extra vacation days to be used
the following calendar year.

Here’s what you need to know before you buy extra vacation days:

  • Check with your leader to make sure taking additional vacation time will be possible. Know that purchasing vacation days doesn’t guarantee you’ll be able to take them.
  • Unused purchased days do not carry over. But if you do not use your purchased days, you’ll get a refund for unused days at the end of the year.
  • One day of purchased vacation is equal to your weekly scheduled hours divided by five. For example, if you’re scheduled to work 40 hours per week, one day of purchased vacation will cost you eight hours of pay (40 ÷ 5 = 8 hours).
  • You must use your company-provided paid time off (“PTO”) days before you can use purchased days.

Summer Bonus Days

The Summer Bonus Days program (formerly known as the Summer Flextime Program) is designed to provide added flexibility for you to help manage work and personal time during the summer months. The program allows eligible colleagues to take up to four full or eight half Summer Bonus Days.
