Core Benefits

Enroll within 60 days of hire*

*Part-time employees scheduled to work less than 30 hours/week are eligible to enroll 90 days after hire.

Medical

The three medical plans are offered through both Aetna and UnitedHealthcare (UHC). Both carriers provide the same coverage, but the per-paycheck rates (which vary by state), out-of-pocket costs, and the network of doctors and hospitals differ. The differences between the plans are outlined below. Further details about the plan coverage are included in the Medical Plan Summaries of Benefits and Coverage (SBC’s) in the boxes below.

Preventive Care. 100% Covered.

Certain services are covered under preventive care, including physicals, vaccines, screenings, mammograms and more.*

*American Express covers 100% of eligible in-network preventive expenses, subject to age, gender
and frequency limitations.

Dental

We’ve partnered with Delta Dental to offer two dental plan options. With both of our dental plan options, you’re 100% covered for preventive care (think: cleanings and x-rays) and will share costs with the plan on things like fillings,
surgery and crowns.

Vision

We’ve partnered with EyeMed to provide a vision plan to cover in- and out-of-network care. Plus, free annual routine vision care exams and coverage for eyeglasses, lenses and more.

Tax-Advantaged Health and Dependent Care Accounts

We offer three tax-advantaged accounts to choose from, which you can use to buy certain essentials
with pre-tax money.

Health Savings Account

HSAs are triple-tax-advantaged for federal taxes and most state taxes, which means you never pay taxes on contributions, earnings or withdrawals as long as they are used for eligible healthcare expenses. Certain states, however, require state taxes to be paid on HSA contributions and/or earnings.

When you enroll in the Basic or Premier Medical Plan, an HSA is automatically opened for you.

Time to Enroll

Remember you only have 60* days from your date of hire to enroll. The benefits you choose will stay in place for the rest of the year unless you have a qualified life event. If you have any questions, contact the

Know Who's Eligible

Eligible dependents include your spouse, your domestic partner and your children under age 26. Please refer to the Aetna or UHC Medical Plan Summary Plan Descriptions for further details.

Get Prepped

Gather Social Security Numbers (SSNs) and birthdates for anyone you plan to cover. You’ll need names or trusts and SSNs or Tax IDs
for any beneficiaries.

Celebrate Joining Team Amex on Social Media

Let others know you’ve joined #TeamAmex by sharing either of the preapproved animated GIFs to your personal social channels. All you have to do is:

  1. Click on and download the GIF you’d like to post (see below).
  2. Choose a social media platform, like LinkedIn.
  3. Upload the GIF into a post. Write a caption explaining why you decided to join American Express. You’ll need to include #TeamAmex and copy that makes it clear that you work for the company
    For example: I’m happy to announce that I’ve joined American Express on the [insert team name] team as [insert title/role]. I’m excited for this next step in my career with #TeamAmex.
  4. When you’re done, click “Share.”
