Somerset House’s grand courtyard, one of London’s most scenic locations, will be transformed once again into an iconic ice rink. Opening on Wednesday, 15 November, it brings a Swiss theme and Alpine vibe to the festivities with an impressive 40ft Christmas tree, Alps-inspired dishes, and music nights throughout the season.
American Express is partnering with Skate for its third year as its Preferred Payment Partner, bringing exclusive benefits to its American Express® Cardmembers, including access to early bird tickets and unique onsite benefits, such as 10% off drinks.
On the 10 of December, Skate will be available exclusively for American Express Cardmembers. Between 8.35am and 9pm, there will be 13 sessions, including one Skate School and Kids Club session. Cardmembers will also enjoy onsite benefits on the day.
The temporary ice rink in the heart of the capital has a long history and marks the start of the festive season every year. Since it first opened in 2000, the ice rink has welcomed thousands of people, providing them with the opportunity to enjoy a festive activity while connecting and sharing joyful moments with loved ones.
This year, Somerset House has partnered up with Switzerland Tourism, offering themed sessions inspired by the Swiss regions of Bern, Lucerne and Valais.
Skate at Somerset will be running from 15 November until 14 January, offering plenty of festive experiences, from an exciting series of rink-side deck takeovers with DJ sets to chilled-out skate sessions that run at a reduced capacity.

Skate with a Swiss twist
Spin around the rink and discover Switzerland through specially curated sessions inspired by the Swiss regions of Bern, Lucerne and Valais.
Make the most of Skate Lates with Rock Angel
Enjoy great music and a curated line-up of DJs, artists and collectives as you skate late into the evening.
Take a skating lesson
Brush up your skills with a class at Skate School and get the kids to spin around the courtyard with special Kids Club sessions for children over 6 years old.
Relax in style in the Skate Lounge
Warm up in the cosy hangout by Whispering Angel, where you can continue to soak up the atmosphere with great music and the ultimate rink-side view.

Join a chilled-out session
Try reduced capacity Skate sessions for a quieter and more specious environment. Wheelchair users are welcome skate at Somerset House at any time, while there are also exclusive wheelchair sessions.
Tickets are available through the official Somerset House website. Prices start from £11 for adults and £8 for children, and booking in advance is advisable as sessions sell out quickly.
