One of the world’s biggest film festivals is back this October. Find out everything you need to know about the BFI London Film Festival 2024 and this year’s line-up.
What is the BFI London Film Festival?
Celebrating the world’s best new films, this year’s BFI London Film Festival, in partnership with American Express, features 253 screenings from 97 countries, all brand new to UK audiences. It also includes talks from world-class filmmakers and other renowned artists, including Mike Leigh, Lupita Nyong’o and Imogen Heap.
A curated series of free short films will be available on BFI Player. You can also experience new immersive art, and extended reality works at LFF Expanded and exciting new television and digital content with LFF Series.
This year’s line-up kicks off with the world premiere of Steve McQueen’s ‘Blitz’ and closes with the European Premiere of Morgan Neville’s ‘Piece by Piece.’
Other highlights include the world premieres of Ben Taylor’s 'Joy', thriller series ‘A Thousand Blows’ from ‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight, and magical Bulgarian drama ‘Tarika’ from Miliko Lazarov.
Oscar-winning directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin’s latest documentary ‘Endurance,’ about the search for Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship, is also one to watch, as is the BFI’s restoration of much-loved animated film ‘Watership Down.’
The American Express Gala features the European Premiere of RJ Cutler and David Furnish’s ‘Elton John: Never Too Late,’ which takes you behind-the-scenes of the pop superstar’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
There’s plenty of free options too, with in-person and online events, Q&As and short films as part of LFF for Free.
Relax in the Festival Café, presented by American Express. This welcoming space will host free daily talks and showcase behind-the-screen production teams and film enthusiasts. You can also use your Card to get 10% off food and drinks.
There’s a selection of tickets available, including £5 tickets for 16 to 25-year-olds, discounts for BFI members and even some £10 tickets to screenings.
