Enrolling in Membership Rewards
Membership Rewards is the loyalty program of American Express. For every dollar spent on an eligible American Express Card, Membership Rewards points are earned and credited to the Card Member’s Account. Points can then be redeemed for travel rewards, shopping rewards and entertainment rewards and more.
Enrolment varies depending on the type of American Express Card you have.
If you hold a Personal Card, you are automatically enrolled and can start enjoying the benefits of Membership Rewards as soon as you start spending on your Card*.
For Business Cards only individual Card Members, not companies, may participate in the program. To enrol, please call the number on the back of your Card.
If you hold a Corporate Card, you may only enrol in Membership Rewards if your Company has chosen to participate in the program. Speak to your Company’s Program Administrator for more information.
For Program Administrators, if your Company would like to participate in Corporate Membership Rewards please speak to your Account Manager or contact our servicing team on 1300 655 300.

Yes. Eligible Accounts that are enrolled in the same program are automatically linked.
If your Cards do not link in the same Membership Rewards program, please call the number on the back of your Card.
Welcome bonus
In most cases, you’ll receive your welcome bonus within 8-10 weeks of meeting the spend criteria.
Please note: Card Members who have held an American Express Card within the 18 months prior to signing up for their new Card are ineligible for the welcome bonus offer.
Earning Membership Rewards points
Once your Card is enrolled in Membership Rewards, you’ll automatically earn points on all purchases. Click here and select your Card to find out how you can earn and redeem points.
To ensure that you are up to date with your points balance, simply log in to your Online Account or the Amex App.
Here are some tips to boost your points balance:
For Personal Card Members
- Use your Card for all your everyday purchases (view a selection of American Express-accepting retailers here)
- Use your Card for high value purchases like travel
- Add an Additional Card to your Account.
- Refer a friend to American Express
For Business and Corporate Card Members
- Make fast, secure payments, even to merchants who don’t accept Card payments with Access Line*
- Send and receive international payments

Yes. Once enrolled in Membership Rewards, Additional Card Members will earn points at the same rate as the Primary Card Member, and their points will be credited to the Primary Account.
Your Membership Rewards statement period may not match your Card statement. So, if there are charges on the Account after the statement cut off, they will be reflected in your next statement, not your current one. Alternatively, you can log in to your Online Account or the Amex App to view your up-to-date balance, instantly.

Redeeming Membership Rewards points
Your Membership Rewards points can be redeemed for eligible flights, accommodation, Gift Cards, shopping and more. To explore the full range of options available to you, view the Catalogue by following the link below.
Many of our rewards provide the option for you to pay with a combination of points plus a payment on your Card*.
For example, if travel rewards are what you're after, you can use your points online at American Express Travel Online, Webjet or in-store at Helloworld Travel and pay the remaining balance on your Card.
Please note that you will not be awarded points for the pay portion of a Points + Pay redemption.
* Points may be redeemed by the Card Member for a Credit on the Primary Card Account. American Express may decline a Points for Credit request where the Card Account or Card Member's other Accounts with American Express are not in good standing. The redemption of Points for Credit will be administered solely by American Express within 3 business days and cannot be reversed. Redeeming Points for Credit is not available for redemption by Corporate Card Accounts and is not redeemable for cash via Credit balance refund. Minimum redemption amounts apply.
You can check your Membership Rewards points balance to see how many points can be redeemed easily online. Simply log in to your Online Account or the Amex App.
No. Your points won’t expire as long as your Account is kept in good standing.
American Express is proud to be associated with a number of hotel and airline partners. Save money on flights and accommodation by transferring Membership Rewards points to up to 11 airline and hotel partner programs (up to 12 if you have a Platinum Card) ranging from Hilton to Qantas and Velocity depending on your Membership Rewards program. You can transfer your points to up to 12 airline and hotel partner programs by following these steps:
- Link your Membership Rewards Account to your Frequent Flyer or guest loyalty Account. If not already linked:.
- Visit the Membership Rewards page to view the Frequent Traveller Partners.
- Select the tab that says “Link more partner programs”
- Select “add another partner program’.
- You are then given the option to add your Partner Account Number.
2. Select an amount of points to transfer (Remember: all transfers are final, so it’s important to check flight and hotel availability, as well as points needed before transferring).
3. Check your Frequent Flyer or guest loyalty Account to confirm your points have been transferred, then redeem directly through them. Most transfers take between 1 - 3 days. However, to avoid any unnecessary delay, it's best you allow 5 business days. Please check the Terms and Conditions for your partner to ensure you allow sufficient time to transfer your points.
Note: Please ensure you select an ‘Accepted’ partner account, or ‘Add Another Partner Program’ with the full name and account number matching that held with the partner.

Card Members can redeem digital Gift Cards as well as physical ones from the online Membership Rewards Catalogue. Select the Gift Card you would like to order and if a digital Gift Card option is available, it will be listed. Most Gift Cards will have a digital Gift Card option, however, you will find that some Gift Cards are only available to order as physical Gift Cards.
No. To order digital Gift Cards, Card Members must do so online via the Membership Rewards Catalogue.
After you have ordered your digital Gift Card, it will take up to 24 hours for the digital Gift Card to be sent to your email. It will be sent by
americanexpressdigitalgiftcards@blackhawknetwork.com. Please check your Spam and Junk mail if you haven’t received within 24 hours before contacting American Express.
Your digital Gift Card is issued by Blackhawk, our trusted Gift Card partner. When your Gift Card is ready, it will be sent by Blackhawk from the email address americanexpressdigitalgiftcards@blackhawknetwork.com.
Your digital Gift Card will be sent to your email within 24 hours of ordering. If you haven’t received it within 24 hours, firstly, check your Spam and Junk mail. Your digital Gift Card will be sent from americanexpressdigitalgiftcards@blackhawknetwork.com and may have accidently been marked as Spam / Junk mail. If the digital Gift Card is not deliverable due to an invalid email address, the order will be cancelled, and points will be returned to your Account in approximately 5 business days from when the order was placed. You can track the status of your order online via the “My Redemptions” page of your Membership Rewards online account. Please ensure the email address on your Card Account is correct before placing the digital Gift Card order again.
Your digital Gift Card will be sent to the email address on your Card Account for security purposes. If you want to send a digital Gift Card to someone else, you can simply forward the digital Gift Card email you receive from americanexpressdigitalgiftcards@blackhawknetwork.com to a new email address. Please note that American Express is not responsible if you forward your digital Gift Card to another email address and the Gift Card is used by someone without your permission.
This is only available on some digital Gift Cards. Please check on the digital Gift Card partner website to see if this option is available.
Unfortunately, we are unable to retrieve your digital Gift Card if it’s sent to the wrong email address or lost. Please ensure your email address on your Account is up to date. Once you receive your digital Gift Card, save it or print it to always have a back up.
Your email address will be updated instantly. This means if you update the email address on your online Card Account now, you can order the digital Gift Cards straightaway and have them sent to your new email address.
Once the order is placed, you cannot cancel, exchange or return the digital.
No. All digital Gift Cards will be active when they are issued.
The expiry will be determined by the Gift Card partner and shown in the digital Gift Card when Card Member receives them. However, the expiry will be a minimum of 3 years from the date of issue.
You may check the Gift Card balance by visiting the Gift Card partner’s website. For example, visit davidjones.com/david-jones-cards/gift-card-balance to search your David Jones Gift Card balance using the Gift Card Number and PIN.
