Voice ID FAQs
When you call in, Voice ID compares your voice to the voiceprint stored on your account to quickly verify your identity. Your voiceprint is like a fingerprint, completely unique to you. It includes over 100 different speech characteristics such as pronunciation and style, word emphasis, accents, and more. Voice ID will work on all your Cards registered.
Voice ID protects your account against common types of fraud. For example, even if someone had your authentication information such as passwords and security questions, Voice ID could help identify they’re not really you.
We are excited to offer this feature to eligible Card Members at this time. To check if you are eligible, please contact us at the phone number on the back of your Card. Our Customer Care Professionals are happy to answer any questions and guide you through the process.
You will be able to use your voiceprint to authenticate yourself in the majority of your interactions with American Express. Even if you are enrolled in Voice ID, we may ask additional authentication questions to ensure that your account is fully protected.
You can opt out of Voice ID account verification – we will delete your voiceprint – at any time by calling the number on the back of your Card to speak with one of our Customer Care Professionals.
Voice ID will continue to recognize you, even if you have a cold or if your voice changes over the years.
You can still use Voice ID if you have a speech impediment. We do not recommend the use of Voice ID if you use a voice box, as some of these use a standard voice that is not unique to you.
No, your voiceprint will only be used to identify you whenever you call our Customer Care Professionals and to help keep your account secure and prevent fraud. Under no circumstances will your voiceprint or any of its components be used for other purposes or shared to anyone else.
