Important Information about the Mercedes-Benz Card from Amex
As we previously communicated in October, the Mercedes-Benz American Express Program will be discontinued. As a result, your Mercedes Benz Card from American Express will be changed on January 11, 2019 to a different American Express Card.
Your Card
You can continue to use your Card as usual for the time being, but your accounts will change automatically to a different American Express Card product on January 11, 2019.
If you have the Mercedes-Benz Platinum Card, your account will change to the Platinum Card from American Express.
If you have a Mercedes-Benz Credit Card, your account will be changed to the Amex Everyday Preferred Credit Card.
You’ll receive your new Card within 10-15 business days after your account changes to the new Product. You can continue to use your current Card until you receive and activate your new Card.
If you have the Mercedes-Benz Platinum Card, Additional Card Members on your account will automatically be transferred to your Platinum from American Express account.
If you have a Mercedes-Benz Credit Card, Additional Card Members on your account will automatically be transferred to your Amex Everyday Preferred Credit Card account.
Yes, you’ll be able to add Additional Card Members.
If you choose to cancel your Card before the account is changed, you will receive a prorated credit for any Annual Membership Fee paid in the last year. To cancel, you must call us at 1-855-865-1451, or call us collect at 1-336-291-1361, no later than 5:00pm Eastern time on January 10, 2019. If you cancel, you won’t be able to use your Card Account for new transactions and you will forfeit any rewards.
Yes, you may continue to request replacement Cards online until January 10, 2019. After January 11, 2019, you’ll receive the new Card Product as your replacement card.
American Express will not send you a renewal Mercedes-Benz Card. If your Card expires in January, you’ll receive the new Card Product.
Offers and Benefits
You’ll no longer receive Silver Star certificates after January 11, 2019. You’ll continue to be eligible to use your Excess Mileage Waiver at the time of lease termination using your new Amex Card until December 31, 2019.
When your account is changed on January 11, 2019, you’ll have the same Membership Rewards program account, and your Membership Rewards points will not be forfeited.
Beginning on January 11, 2019, you’ll no longer receive 5x Membership Rewards points for purchases at authorized participating Mercedes-Benz dealerships. You will earn Membership Rewards Points according to the terms and conditions for the new Card.
No, you’ll be able to keep your benefit enrollment without taking any additional action.
Billings, Claims, and Disputes
For your convenience, your account number will stay the same, so there is no need to update your Card information with any merchants who automatically bill to your Card.
Common merchant categories for recurring billing include telecommunications, streaming services, insurance, and transportation.
Yes, you can dispute charges. If you have any charges that are already in dispute prior to January 11, 2019, we will continue to process these disputes.
You’ll continue to have access to your online account at americanexpress.com after your account changes to the new Card.
If you do not wish to receive your new Card, you must reject the change by calling us at 1-855-865-1451, or by calling us collect at 1-336-291-1361, no later than 5:00pm Eastern time on January 10, 2019. If you cancel, you won’t be able to use your Card Account for new transactions and you’ll forfeit any rewards. In addition, cancelling your Card will result in a prorated credit for any Annual Membership Fee paid in the last year.
The replacement of the Card with a different American Express Card will have no impact to your Credit Bureau Report/Score.
Your account Open Date will remain the same. This will not negatively impact your Credit Score.
Membership Rewards® Program
Your Membership Rewards account will remain the same. The points you receive on your Card will remain in your Membership Rewards account and you can continue to use those points.
If you voluntarily cancel your enrollment in the program, but you keep at least one American Express Card open and is not past due or cancelled, you’ll have up to 30 days from the date of cancellation to use any points in your program account.
If you don’t redeem the points by this time, they will be forfeited.
If you chose to cancel your Card account and you don’t keep open any American Express Cards, all points in your program account will be immediately forfeited.
