About Apple Pay
Customers with an American Express Debit Card or an American Express Business Debit Card (each a “Debit Card”) can add their Debit Card to Apple Pay and pay on the go at merchants who accept American Express contactless payments, in participating merchant apps and on the web.
Please visit apple.com/apple-pay for a complete list of Apple devices that are compatible with Apple Pay.
You can use Apple Pay to make payments in stores with supported devices wherever American Express contactless payments are accepted. Just look for the contactless and/or Apple Pay symbol at checkout.
You can also use Apple Pay in participating merchant apps and on the web with supported devices. Look for the “Buy with Apple Pay” or “Apple Pay” button at checkout within the apps.
We will display certain account information on your device, such as data for your recent purchases, but not your full account information. At any time, you can turn off the display of transaction data manually within Apple Pay by turning off notifications for your Debit Card. We will never share your physical Debit Card number with Apple.
Your Debit Card in Apple Pay is protected by “Touch ID”, “Face ID”, "Optic ID", and/or your device “Passcode”. For your security, when you make a purchase using Apple Pay, you must either use “Touch ID”, “Face ID”, "Optic ID", or the “Passcode” for your device. All of your payment account information will be encrypted and protected within Apple's secure environment.
Getting Started
To add your Debit Card to Apple Pay on your Apple device, visit the Apple Support page for instructions. Please know that you must accept the American Express Terms of Use for Apple Pay when you add your Debit Card to Apple Pay and that you are also subject to Apple's own terms and conditions.
For security reasons, you will be required to enter your Security Code when adding your Debit Card to Apple Pay. The Security Code for your Debit Card (Card ID or CID) is the 4-digit, non-embossed number printed above your Debit Card account number on the front of your physical Debit Card.
For security purposes, we may ask you to enter a one-time Verification Code to confirm your identity. This code is a unique series of numbers and/or letters that you can choose to receive via email or text. For Apple Watch, you will need to enter the Verification Code for the Debit Card you are adding by going to “Wallet & Apple Pay” in the Apple Watch app on your supported device. Please know that you will need a working internet or data connection to receive a one-time Verification Code.
Your one-time Verification Code may expire if you aren’t able to enter it within 10 minutes. You can request another code by selecting your preferred verification option again. If you are unable to get a one-time Verification Code, please contact American Express Customer Care by calling the number on the back of your Debit Card.
