How to set up Google Pay
Download the Google Pay app and
select ‘+’.
Add your Card by scanning it or entering the Card details. For security purposes, we may ask you to enter a one-time verification code to confirm your identity.
Then that’s it. You're done.

You can use Google Pay at thousands of places that welcome American
Express contactless payments, either in-store or in-app.
On the go?
Make travel easier on trains, buses, ferries and more with Google Pay, by
simply holding your Android device over the ticket reader and authorising the
payment.

- To make an in-store payment using Google Pay, wake up the device and tapthe top of your device on the reader at a merchant where American Express Cardsare accepted. You may be prompted to authenticate the payment by providing your PIN, passcode, pattern or fingerprint to authorize the transaction.
- To make a purchase in participating apps, select the “Google Pay” button when you reach the checkout screen.
With Google Pay, you can make simple and secure mobile payments for amounts of up to and above £100 contactless limits, without entering your PIN on the terminal. However, some merchants may apply their own limits.

- An eligible Card is an active UK American Express issued Personal or Small Business Credit or Charge Card, or an American Express Corporate Card
- Your current Card does not need to be contactless in order to use Apple Pay
- American Express Pre-paid Cards, Virtual Accounts, Corporate Purchasing Cards, International Currency Cards and Meeting Cards are not eligible
You need to have an NFC-enabled Android device running Lollipop 5.0 or above and the Google Pay app. To download the Google Pay app or to check if your device is compatible with Google Pay, visit the Google Play Store. Near Field Communication (NFC) is the technology which allows your Smartphone to communicate with the terminal at any Merchant accepting contactless transactions.
In order to use the Google Pay app, you must agree to Google’s terms of use and privacy policy. American Express has no control over Google’s decisions to change Google Pay or any of its services, products or software.
Your Card is protected by your secure Android device lock - PIN, password or pattern. For your security, when you make a purchase using your Android device, you must unlock your device using device lock. All your payment information will be encrypted with SSL (Secure Socket Layer) technology and stored on secure servers. When you make contactless payments using your Android device in Google Pay, your physical Card details are never shown in the app or shared with the merchant when you make payments in store.

Adding your American Express Card to a compatible Android device allows you to use Google Pay to tap and pay in-store or
on compatible apps and websites. Your Cardmember Agreement also applies to these transactions.

Keeping your Account secure
- You must keep your device and login details safe and secure at all times - just like your actual card and PIN.
- Never share your login details or allow another person to register their fingerprint to your device. If you do allow someone access and they make a purchase, we'll consider that an authorised transaction.
- You must set up a screen lock to use Google Pay on your Android device.
- If you disable the screen lock function on your device, your Card will be removed from Google Pay.

Lost or stolen devices
Call us immediately on the number on the back of your Card if your Android device has been lost, stolen or compromised in any way. We can suspend or remove your Card from Google Pay to prevent unauthorised use.
Personal information and data protection
We will use your personal information in accordance with the American Express Online Privacy Statement. When you register your Card to your Android device, Google may access and process your details, including information about your transactions. This use is governed by Google's privacy policy.
Google user agreements
Google may change its Android pay system from time to time. American Express has no control over Google's decisions to change Google Pay or any of its services, products terms of use or privacy policies. In order to use Google Pay, you must agree to Google's terms of use and privacy policy.
