Apple Pay FAQs
About Apple Pay
Now you can enjoy all the benefits of your American Express® with Apple Pay on iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac.
Using Apple Pay is simple, and it works with the devices you use every day. Your Card information is secure because it isn’t stored on your device or shared when you pay. Paying in stores, apps, and on the web has never been easier, safer, or more private.
- American Express will not share your physical Card number with Apple. However, to deliver the best Apple Pay experience, basic Account information is shared to personalise your display, such recent purchases and Card product.
- You can turn off the display of transaction data at any time manually within Apple Pay by adjusting the transaction history for each Card.
- As soon as you register your Card to your device, Apple may access and process some of your personal information, including information about your transactions in order to provide the Apple Pay service. Apple’s use of your personal information is solely governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
- If you have any additional questions about your device’s security features, please visit the Apple Pay support pages
- Any person with your device passcode or a fingerprint registered to your device will be able to authorise transactions using your Card with Apple Pay.
- You must keep your device safe and secure, and your device passcode secret. Do not let anyone else, including family members, have their fingerprint registered to your device while your Card is registered with it.
- Refer to the security settings on your device for further information.

- Apple Pay transactions will appear on online and paper statements as normal transactions.
- On the Amex App, you will be able to expand the selected transaction and see that it was made via Apple Pay.
- However, we are constantly reviewing and improving our services so you may be able to see more information in your online transactions in the future.
- For some transactions, Apple Pay may show a pre-authorisation amount, rather than the amount the merchant actually charged.
- An example of this is if a hotel pre-authorises your Account for £100. The hotel may then only charge your Card £50 for the services you used during your stay, which will reflect in your online Account transactions as £50, however, Apple Pay will always show the £100 amount.
- If you see a transaction in Apple Pay that is higher than you expected, like in the example above, please check your Online Account, the Amex App or your monthly paper statement for the correct amount.
- Occasionally, something might appear on your statement that you disagree with or want to query. Just contact us and we’ll get on the case to help resolve the charge in question.
- For more information about the security of using your Card, please visit our Fraud Protection page on our website for our Fraud Protection Guarantee.
