Identity Theft
Voice ID
- Voice ID is a new security feature available to all our customers, allowing you to access your account quickly and securely without having to remember security numbers or passwords.
- Because every voice is unique (like a fingerprint) we can create a Voice Print using your Speech Behaviour that only works for you, even if you have a cold or sore throat.
- Once you’ve enrolled in Voice ID, you will benefit from the added protection against ID theft.
- American Express is excited to enable this offering to our Cardmembers in 2023. You may still be asked some security questions whilst we roll out this feature to all departments.
Monitor your Account
regularly
- Check your statements thoroughly. Our online services make it easy.
- Stay up to date with our regular Account alerts. Download the Amex App to get instant notifications about purchases made with your Card.
- See something you don't recognise? Contact us right away.
Keep your Card safe
- Never let anyone else use your Card.
- Sign the back of new Cards straight away.
- Always destroy expired Cards.
- Let us know as soon as you can if your Card has been lost or stolen.
Use a mobile wallet
Amex Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay require fingerprint authorisation or facial recognition and don't keep your Card details stored on your device (or share it with merchants). They provide an extra layer of security.
Be sure not to let anyone else register their fingerprint or FaceID to your phone, and don't share your phone passcodes.
Protect your PIN
- Choose a PIN that's hard to guess (e.g. not your date of birth).
- Never write down your PIN or keep it with your Card.
- Don't share your PIN.
- Shield your PIN whenever you use it.
Keep personal details personal
When choosing a user ID, password and PIN, avoid using something that's easy to find out, like your
child or pet's name. Use different passwords for all accounts (that includes email and social
media) and change them regularly.
Be aware of SIM swap
SIM swap fraud is when fraudsters try to access your Account by taking over your mobile phone number.
If you suddenly stop receiving texts or phone calls, contact your mobile service provider right away.
It could mean you've become a victim of SIM swap.

Voice ID FAQs
Voice ID is incredibly secure. It analyses over a 100 different speech characteristics – pronunciation and style, word emphasis, accent and more. The final voice print is completely unique to you. Fraudsters or hackers may be able to steal or guess your password, but they can’t replicate your voice.
You will be able to use your voice print to authenticate yourself in majority of your interactions with American Express. However in a few scenarios we may ask additional ID questions, this is to ensure your Account is fully protected.
American Express is excited to roll out this feature to our Card Members in 2023. Our phone servicing team members will walk you through the process once available for you.
Voice ID can analyse your voice within seconds. It’s fast and easy.
You can opt-out at any time with our Customer Service team by calling the number on the back of your Card.
Yes, your voiceprint will work on all Cards registered to you.
We are currently not able to offer this service, however it may be an option in the future.
You can still use Voice ID if you have a speech impediment. It is not recommended to use Voice ID if you use a voice box as some of these use a standard voice that is not unique to you.
