Enrolling in Membership Rewards
Membership Rewards is the loyalty program of American Express. For every dollar spent on an eligible American Express Card, Membership Rewards points are earned and credited to the Card Member’s Account. Points can then be redeemed for travel rewards, shopping rewards and entertainment rewards and more.
Enrolment varies depending on the type of American Express Card you have.
If you hold a Personal Card, you are automatically enrolled and can start enjoying the benefits of Membership Rewards as soon as you start spending on your Card.
If you hold a Business Card, all Card Members may participate in the program. To enrol, please call the number on the back of your Card.
If you hold a Corporate Card, you may enrol in Membership Rewards if your Company has chosen to participate in the program. To enrol, speak to your Company’s Program Administrator for more information.

Yes. Eligible Accounts that are enrolled in the same program are automatically linked.
Welcome bonus
In most cases, you’ll receive your welcome bonus within 8-10 weeks of meeting the spend criteria.
Please note: Card Members who have held an American Express Card within the 18 months prior to signing up for their new Card are ineligible for the welcome bonus offer.
Earning Membership Rewards points
Once your Card is enrolled in Membership Rewards, you’ll automatically earn points on all purchases.
To ensure that you are up to date with your points balance, simply log in to your Online Account or the Amex App.
Here are some tips to boost your points balance:
1. Use your Card for your everyday purchases (view a selection of American Express-accepting retailers here)
2. Use your Card for high value purchases like travel
Yes. Once enrolled in Membership Rewards, Additional Card Members will earn points at the same rate as the Primary Card Member, and points will be credited to the Primary Account.
Your Membership Rewards statement period may not match your Card statement. So, if there are charges on the Account after the statement cut off, they will be reflected in your next statement, not your current one. Alternatively, you can log in to your Online Account or the Amex App to view your up-to-date balance, instantly.
Redeeming Membership Rewards points
Membership Rewards points can be redeemed for eligible flights, accommodation, Gift Cards, shopping and more. To explore the full range of options available to you, view the Catalogue by following the link below.
Many of our rewards provide the option for you to pay with a combination of points plus a payment on your Card*.
For example, if travel rewards are what you're after, you can use your points online at American Express Travel Online, Webjet or in-store at Helloworld Travel and pay the remaining balance on your Card.
Please note that you will not be awarded points for the pay portion of a Points + Pay redemption.
* Points may be redeemed by the Card Member for a Credit on the Primary Card Account. American Express may decline a Points for Credit request where the Card Account or Card Member's other Accounts with American Express are not in good standing. The redemption of Points for Credit will be administered solely by American Express within 3 business days and cannot be reversed. Redeeming Points for Credit is not available for redemption by Corporate Card Accounts and is not redeemable for cash via Credit balance refund. Minimum redemption amounts apply.
You can check Membership Rewards points balance to see how many points can be redeemed easily online. Simply log in to your Online Account or the Amex App.
No. Points won’t expire as long as your Account is kept in good standing.

Save money on flights and accommodation by transferring Membership Rewards points up to 8 airline and hotel partner programs (up to 9 if you have a Platinum Card) ranging from Hilton to Qantas and Velocity depending on your Membership Rewards program. You can transfer points to airline and hotel partner programs by following these steps:
1. Link your Membership Rewards Account to your Frequent Flyer or guest loyalty Account. If not already linked:
a. Visit the Membership Rewards page to view the Frequent Traveller Partners.
b. Select the tab that says “Link more partner programs”
c. Select “add another partner program’
d. You are then given the option to add your Partner Account Number
2. Select an amount of points to transfer (Remember: all transfers are final, so it’s important to check flight and hotel availability, as well as points needed before transferring)
3. Check your Frequent Flyer or guest loyalty Account to confirm your points have been transferred, then redeem directly through that account Most transfers take between 1 - 3 days. To avoid any unnecessary delay, it's best you allow 5 business days. Please check the Terms and Conditions for your partner to ensure you allow sufficient time to transfer points.
