What is Credit Card fraud?

It is any time your Credit Card is used by an unauthorised person. Fraudsters may make a copy of your Credit Card details and use them to make purchases over the phone or online. While scammers try to trick you in providing your Credit Card details by pretending there is an official reason for Card details to be shared. What to look out for:

Vishing Scam

When you receive a call from someone claiming to be from American Express© and asks you to confirm with them any type of verification code.

Spoofing

When a fraudster disguises their own number or website as American Express.

Identity theft

There are two forms: Application fraud is someone using your info to apply for a card. Account Takeover is a fraudster accessing and changing your Card account info to lock you out.

Email phishing

When a scammer attempts to trick you into sharing private information, often posing as the Post Office, government or other reputable organisations to obtain your Card details. Learn more here.
