Look for the top three signs a site is secure:
- A padlock symbol in the browser address bar (not on the page itself) when you go to log in or pay.
- A web address beginning with 'https://' (the 's' stands for 'secure').
- In some browsers, the address bar or the company name has a green tint.
Stay Secure with Updated Operating Systems
In the digital age, safeguarding your devices from threats is crucial. Here's how updated operating systems enhance your security:
- Regular Updates: Keep your Operating systems, Amex App and other applications updated.
- Weekly Checks: Verify that your devices have the latest Operating System and App updates weekly.
- Secure Banking: Install trusted anti-virus software on all devices used for banking.
- Choose Trusted Providers: Ensure your anti-virus software is up-to-date and from reputable sources.
- Trustworthy Downloads: Only download apps from official app stores.
- Defend Against Threats: Protect against malware, spyware, and phishing with reliable software.
- Routine Scans: Conduct regular scans to detect and eliminate threats.
- Use Strong Locks: Secure devices with PINs, biometric authentication, or robust passwords.


Avoid online scams
- Look out for phishing emails and phone calls. Find out what to look for.
- Don't reply to unsolicited emails from companies you don't know.
- Don't enter any personal or financial information into pop-up windows.
Mobile safety
- Do not download or install applications from untrusted sources. Install apps downloaded only from a reputed application market/store.
- Verify app permissions and grant only those permissions which have relevant context for the app's purpose.
- Ensure that none of the app installations from ‘untrusted sources’ are enabled in your device setting .
- Avoid using unsecured or unknown Wi-Fi networks. There may be rogue Wi-Fi access points at public places used for distributing malicious applications.
- Use screen mirroring applications with caution.
- To help keep your mobile device safe, avoid downloading remote access apps from your provider’s app store. When using these apps, fraudsters can take remote access of your mobile device and carry out transactions through your mobile banking app.”
- Activate "Find My Device": Quickly locate and erase data if your device is lost or stolen.
- Avoid Unattended Devices: Never leave your devices unguarded in public.


Protect yourself from fraudsters
Fraudsters are targeting people who wish to apply for an American Express® Card. Their aim is to steal sensitive information such as bank details and personal data, including AADHAAR numbers and OTPs. These criminals employ various methods to deceive people, including the use of WhatsApp, Facebook, fake American Express websites, phone calls, and SMS.
- Always apply for American Express® Cards only from the official website (www.Americanexpress.com/en-in/)
- Check for correct website name and domain spelling while applying.
- Always verify the source of the texts and calls you receive.
- American Express® will never ask for your personal information and documents on unofficial channels like text messages, calls or WhatsApp.
- For Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures, expect to receive an email from the official American Express email ID. This is the only legitimate method of communication for this process.
- For application verification, always rely on the official portal link provided in the email by American Express®.
If anyone contacts you claiming to be from American Express® and asks for personal details such as your Aadhar number, OTP, or bank records, it is crucial to report this immediately. You can report such cases to the cybercrime authorities at https://www.cybercrime.gov.in or by calling 1930.

Beware of Malware apps
Fraudsters can send customers, download links of fake Amex Apps through social media and text messages. These fake apps may ask you for your personal or financial information.
- Steal your login credentials and OTP.
- Take remote access which can lock you out of your device.
- Make transactions from your account.
- Steal personal details like AADHAAR card and PIN.
- Avoid links/downloads from unverified sources.
- Verify offers through official channels.
- Review statements and report discrepancies.
- Check app developer names and domain spelling.
- Never share personal information with us.
- Download the official Amex App from verified sources.
