About Google Pay
- You can now use an eligible American Express Card with the Google Pay app to make contactless payments at retailers that accept American Express contactless payments.

- All Hong Kong American Express issued Cards are eligible for use with Google Pay. This includes American Express issued Personal and Small Business Cards.
- If you have an American Express Card issued by a bank, please check with your issuer if you are eligible to participate by calling the number on the back of your Card.

- You need to have a compatible NFC-enabled Android device and the Google Pay app. To download the Google Pay app or to check if your device is compatible with Google Pay, visit the Google Play Store. The Near Field Communication (NFC) is the technology which allows your Smartphone to communicate with the terminal at any Merchant accepting contactless transactions.
- In order to use the Google Pay app, you must agree to Google’s terms of use and privacy policy. American Express has no control over Google’s decisions to change Google Pay or any of its services, products or software.
- We will never share your Card Account information with Google.
- To deliver you the best Google Pay app experience, we will share certain account information about each Card you have selected to use with Google Pay and will make that information available for display on your device, such as data for your recent purchases. - All of your payment information will be encrypted with Industry-standard SSL (secure socket layer) technology and stored on secure servers.
- By using a virtual account number to represent your Card information, your Card details stay safe and secure as your plastic card details are never shown in the app or shared with the merchant when you make payments in store.

- Your American Express Cardmember Agreement governs the use of your American Express Card in Google Pay. We also provide you with some Important Information when you first link your American Express Card to your Android device. You can find that Important Information here.
1. It’s simple to add your Card to your compatible Android device. Download and open the Google Pay app on your compatible Android device.
2. You may add a new eligible American Express Card via the following methods:
- By following the on-screen prompts to take a picture of your Card or
- Add your Card manually by entering your Card information or
- If a Card is already linked to a Google account, you can add it to Google Pay by confirming a few details.
3. Enter your Security Code (the 4 digit number on the front of your Card) and read the Important Information provided. (You will also need to accept Google Payments’ own terms and conditions which you can find here payments.google.com)
- Important information: When linking your Card to your Android device you may see a pending charge in your AMEX app, on your online statement or via notification. This verifies the card is valid but will not get charged to your account.
- The first Card you add to your compatible Android device is automatically set as default for all contactless payment with Google Pay.
- To make American Express your default Card, you can drag and drop the selected Card to the default spot on the screen.

- The Security Code for your American Express Card is the 4 digit, non-embossed number printed above your Card Account number on the front of your physical Card.
- For security reasons, you will be required to enter your Security Code when linking your Card to your Android device.
- For security purposes, when linking your Card to your Android device we may ask you to enter a one-time Verification Code to confirm your identity.
- This code is a unique series of numbers and/or letters that you can choose to receive by email or text message during the set-up process.
- Please note that you will need a working internet and/or data connection to receive a one-time verification code.
- Your one-time Verification Code may expire if you aren’t able to enter it within 10 minutes. You can request another code by selecting your preferred verification option again.
- If you opted to receive your one-time Verification Code by email but cannot find it in your inbox, please check your ‘Junk’ folder before requesting a new one.
- If you are unable to get a one-time Verification Code, please contact us at the number found at the back of your Card.
- You can use your Android device to make contactless payment with Google Pay wherever American Express contactless payment are accepted. Just look for the contactless and/or Google Pay symbol at checkout.
- To make a payment, wake up your device and hold it near the contactless reader.
- You might be prompted to authenticate by unlocking the device or performing a second tap on the terminal.
- When the transaction is successful, you will see a tick mark on your screen.
- You will feel a brief vibration or hear a beep from the device before your purchase is completed.
- For your security, when you add your American Express Card to Google Pay, a Virtual Account Number is created which is different from your Card number and unique to your device.
- Your Virtual Account Number is used to make Contactless Google Pay purchases with your Card.
- You can find your Virtual Account Number by tapping on your Card in the Google Pay app and scrolling down to your Card details.
- If you have returned an item purchased via Contactless Google Pay, the retailer may ask you to provide the last four digits of your Virtual Account number.

- Please remember to keep the original receipt you received from the merchant at the time of purchase as the Google Pay receipt is not an official proof of purchase.

- American Express has no control over Google’s decisions to change Google Pay or any of its services, products or software.
Managing your Card
- You can view and manage your Cards in the Google Pay app. When you tap on your Card, scroll down to view your Card details, including transactions and your Virtual Account Number. You also have the ability to remove your Card from the device.
- No, your Virtual Account Number is connected to your new Card number automatically.
- You can use your Card in Google Pay app to make transactions before receiving your new physical Card.
- You can remove your Card by tapping your Card in the Google Pay app and selecting 'Remove Card' or 'Deactivate in-store'.
- If you believe your device or Google Pay contactless Card information has been lost, stolen or compromised in any way, please contact us immediately at the number found on the back of your Card.
- You may also use the Android Device Manager (google.com/android/devicemanager) to instantly lock your device from anywhere, secure it with a new password or wipe it clean of personal data.
Managing your transactions
- You will see your purchases in the ‘Transaction Display’ of your Card in Google Pay.
- The purchases you see will be from using your Card using Google Pay app, but not from using your physical Card.
- You can turn ‘Transaction Display’ off from Settings > Notifications > Toggle off.
- For all official statement information, please refer to your online Card Account or the Amex app.
- If a charge appears on your statement that you disagree with or want to query. Just contact us and we will get on the case to help resolve the charge in question.
