When you request a replacement Card at americanexpress.com/cardreplacement, American Express will cancel your lost or stolen Card and you will be sent your replacement Card.

- You can order a replacement Card for yourself or anyone on your Account
- If you are using your Card for any recurring payments such as cell phone charges, or with online merchants where your Card is on file like Amazon, there is no need to update them with your new Card information unless you are specifically asked to do so.
- If you have already added your Card to a digital wallet, you can continue to spend using your device at participating merchants and merchant apps while you wait for your new Card
Frequently Asked Questions
If you have your Card in possession, you can create an Online Account here in just a few steps. From within your Online Account, you will be able to start your online Card Replacement request.
If you do not have your Card in possession, then you will need to contact us by phone to request a new Card.
If your Card is no longer in your possession, American Express will immediately cancel your existing Card for your protection, and then issue a replacement.
If your Card is still in your possession and is just damaged, American Express will issue you a new Card, and you can continue to use that Card to make purchases until your replacement Card arrives.
You can choose from multiple delivery options to ship your replacement Card. Depending on the delivery method you choose, you will receive your Card typically within a few days or even next day. As soon as your Card has shipped, we will notify you.
When we cancel your lost or stolen Card, the Card will no longer be valid. We are not however canceling your American Express account.
No. If your Card is expiring soon, we’ll automatically send your renewal Card to your Card Mailing address on file. You’ll receive your renewal Card by the middle of the expiration month. Corporate Card renewals will be received no later than the end of the expiration month.

There is no need to update your Card information with merchants who automatically bill your Card, such as cell phone companies or online merchants where your Card is on file like Amazon, unless you are specifically asked to do so. If necessary, you will receive an email or letter advising you of any updates the merchant may need.
Please note, your new Card does include a new security code and expiration date that must be provided when requested during future purchases.
Yes. American Express Cards added to digital wallets are automatically updated with the new Card information when a replacement Card is requested. If you have already added your Card, you can continue to spend using your device at participating merchants and merchant apps that accept American Express while you wait for your new Card to arrive.
If you have not yet added your Card and would like to take advantage of this benefit in the future, you can add your new Card to a digital wallet on an eligible device once you receive and confirm your new Card.
