I am a social psychologist specializing in the study of motivation and goal pursuit. I received my PhD from Columbia University, working with Carol Dweck (Mindset) and E. Tory Higgins. Tory and I have written a new book that comes out this April, called FOCUS: Using Different Ways of Seeing the World for Success and Influence. I'm also the author of SUCCEED: How We Can Reach Our Goals (Dec 2010, Hudson Street Press) and Nine Things Successful People Do Differently (Harvard Business Press). I am a speaker, consultant, and expert blogger for Harvard Business Review, Huffington Post, Forbes, 99u, SmartBrief's SmartBlog on Leadership, WSJ, Fast Company and Psychology Today. I co-edited the highly-regarded academic book The Psychology of Goals (Guilford, 2009), and I have authored papers in some of my field’s most prestigious journals, including the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, European Journal of Social Psychology, and Judgment and Decision Making.
