Marcos’ illustration reflects the spaces that he occupies either at home or while he’s traveling. Born in Mozambique, Africa, he and his family moved to Lisbon, Portugal then to Toronto, Canada and finally to Brooklyn, New York. His pictures tell stories. They’re inspired by his rich personal experiences, friendships, and familial relationships. In Marcos’ art, it’s the characters who are in the foreground, the way they express themselves shape the world that they live in. Underpinning much of Marcos’ colorful illustrations are safety, inclusivity, and joy. His characters are the highest expressions of themselves and welcome others to be the same.
