Frequently Asked Questions: Direct Deposit
Direct deposit is a way to receive certain payments such as payroll or federal benefits electronically.
After logging into your Rewards Checking account online, click on the Account Services tab and select 'Set Up Direct Deposit'.
American Express offers three ways to switch and set up your direct deposit with your Rewards Checking account:
1. If you already have direct deposit set up elsewhere, use our online automated direct deposit switcher through our partnership with Pinwheel. To learn more about Pinwheel, please check the "About Pinwheel" section of our FAQs
2. Provide your payroll provider with your account and routing number.
3. Download the Amex Direct Deposit form, fill it out, and share with your payroll provider.
It usually takes up to 2 pay cycles for your direct deposit to show in your account after the set up or switch is made.
Direct deposits will be made available the next Business Day after they are received.
Log into your Rewards Checking account online and view ‘"Your Checking Account Details’" in the Home tab. You can also access your account and routing numbers via the Account Services tab and select ‘"Set up Direct Deposit’".
You can enroll at fiscal.treasury.gov/godirect.
Pinwheel is a third-party that American Express partners with to offer a seamless and secure way to digitally switch your existing direct deposit to your Rewards Checking account. You can choose to switch the full or partial amount into your Rewards Checking account.
To help facilitate your direct deposit switch, American Express will share your account and routing number with Pinwheel.
No, you can only use Pinwheel to switch your existing direct deposit between banks. To set up direct deposit for the first time, you can either:
1. Download the Amex Direct Deposit form, fill it out, and share with your payroll provider.
2. Provide your payroll provider with your account and routing number.
If your payroll provider isn't found in Pinwheel, you can either:
1. Download the Amex Direct Deposit form, fill it out, and share with your payroll provider.
