Protection and Extended Warranty Protection
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The descriptions of the insurance related benefits available on your American Express® Platinum Card are for information purposes. All the provisions of the coverage are contained in the Certificates of Insurance. All insurance coverage is subject to the terms and conditions of the respective master policies.
Insurance for accidental damage or theft for items you have purchased on your Platinum Card within 90 days of purchase, up to the purchase price of each time subject to:
- a limit of S$10,000 for each incidence of theft or damage, regardless of the number of items affected in each incidence; and
- a total aggregate limit of S$50,000 in any Period of Insurance.
Who's Covered?
- The Platinum Member, the Supplementary Platinum Member, or their respective Spouses, between the age of 18 and 80 years;
- The Platinum Member's or the Supplementary Platinum member's Dependant Child, up to and including 23 years of age.
- The travel cost for the originating and return journey for the trip must be charged to the Platinum Member’s or the Supplementary Platinum Member's Card.
- Claims less than S$150.
- For all claims, the first 10% of the claim amount.
- Costs not approved in advance by the Insurer.
- Items left unattended in a public place.
- Damage caused intentionally by an Insured Person.
- Theft not reported to the police within 48 hours and a report obtained.
- Normal wear and tear.
- Damage to items caused by product defects.
- Theft of or damage to Excluded Item(s).
- Theft, or damage to cash, or its equivalent, travelers cheques, tickets or any negotiable instruments.
Covers the purchase price of the items you have purchased on your Card for your personal use from a retail store in your Country Of Residence when you attempt unsuccessfully to return the unused item to the retailer within 90 days of purchase, upon you surrendering the items subject to:
- a limit of S$1,000 for each item.
- a total aggregate limit of S$5,000 in any Period of Insurance.
Who's Covered?
- The Platinum Member, the Supplementary Platinum Member, or their respective Spouses, between the age of 18 and 80 years;
- The Platinum Member's or the Supplementary Platinum Member's Dependant Child, up to and including 23 years of age.
- The travel cost for the originating and return journey for the trip must be charged to the Platinum Member’s or the Supplementary Platinum Member's Card.
Key exclusions & limitations
- Any item with a purchase price less than S$150.
- Items that are not in a new and saleable condition, free from all defects, and in full working order.
- Items purchased from a retailer that has an established return policy, which is the same or better than the benefit under this Section.
- Jewelry; precious stones; rare and precious coins or stamps; one of a kind items including antiques, art work and furs, cash or its equivalents, travelers cheques, tickets or negotiable instruments; services, mobile phones and their accessories, recorded media (including but not limited to CD’s, DVD’s, computer software, video and audio tapes); books; animals and living plants; consumable and perishable goods; healthcare items; used, rebuilt and refurbished items; closing down sale items; vehicles and their parts.
Extended Warranty Protection
Provides reimbursement for:
- the cost of labor or parts used to repair or correct any malfunction, defect or damage of the appliance.
- the Residual Value of the appliance if it cannot be repaired at a reasonable cost. If the appliances you have purchased on your Card (with purchase price of not more than S10,000) for your personal use from a retail store in your Country of Residence fails to operate, due to unforeseen electrical or mechanical problems, within the Extended Warranty Period.
Who's Covered?
- The Platinum Member, the Supplementary Platinum Member, or their respective Spouses, between the age of 18 and 80 years;
- The Platinum Member's or the Supplementary Platinum Member's Dependant Child, up to and including 23 years of age.
- The travel cost for the originating and return journey for the trip must be charged to the Platinum Member’s or the Supplementary Platinum Member's Card.
- Any Covered Appliance with a purchase price less than S$150.
- Costs incurred without the Insurer's prior approval.
- Costs for servicing, inspection or cleaning of the Covered Appliance including video/audio heads and soap dispensers.
- Costs for returning, realigning satellite dishes or any adjustment intended by the manufacturer to be carried out by the Insured Person.
- Costs for replacing consumable items such as batteries, filters, lamps, vacuum cleaner belts, bags and printer cartridges.
- Costs for repairing cosmetic damage where the function of the Covered Appliance is unaffected, such as dents, scratches and rust.
- Loss of use of the Covered Appliance or any consequential loss or any amount that the Insured Person is able to recover under any other insurance policy.
- Any Covered Appliance which has been modified or used for business purposes.
- Any Covered Appliance not located at the Insured Person’s home.
- Call-out charges where the party who is to repair the Covered Appliance is unable to find a fault in it.
