To apply for an American Express Charge Card you need to:
- At least 18 years of age
- New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
- Be a Director or Controller of the business
- Have an annual business revenue of $60,000 or more
- Have an active New Zealand Business Number (NZBN)
Information to have ready:
- Your annual gross personal income and your business revenue
- A copy of your driver’s license

1. Depending on when you make a purchase, when your statement is issued, and whether you are carrying forward a balance on your Account from your previous statement period. If you pay by direct debit, your payment will be processed 14 days after your statement is issued.
2. Membership Rewards: Subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Membership Rewards program available at https://www.americanexpress.com/en-nz/rewards/membershiprewards/terms. Enrolment into Membership Rewards is required (an annual fee may apply). Eligibility to participate in the Membership Rewards program depends on your Card product type, and is subject to the approval of American Express. There is no expiry on points as long as the Card Account is active, enrolled in Membership Rewards program and is kept in good standing and not overdue.
3. No pre-set spending limit does not mean unlimited spending. Your purchase is approved based on a variety of factors such as business income, expenses, and your business’s credit rating/history.

5. Employee Cards: American Express approval criteria apply. Subject to Terms and Conditions. This offer is only available to those who reside in New Zealand. Employee Card Members must be over 18 years of age. The Business and the Primary Card Member are jointly and severally liable for all Employee Card spending. Each employee is entitled to only one (1) Employee Card.

Offer only available to new American Express Card Members who apply by 30 April 2025, are approved and spend $1,000 on eligible purchases on their new Card in the first two (2) months from the Card approval date. Eligible purchases do not include Card fees and charges, for example annual fees, interest, late payment, cash advances, balance transfers, traveller’s cheques and foreign currency conversion.
