Miami Travel Guide

Boasting glittering coastal shores, an enviable tropical climate and a bustling inner-city atmosphere - Miami is an irresistible destination for business and pleasure alike.

An edited choice of the best places in town to lay your head.

Start here: a local's pick of the city's must sees and dos.

When is the best time to visit Miami?

Miami’s Mediterranean climate means that temperatures can reach averages of 30C in the summer, hitting their peak in July. If you’re looking for the best time to swim, then August is perfect for waters that have soaked up the summer sun.  It’s rarely truly cold in Miami. Autumn (September to November) may be damp, but winter (December to February) is very dry, with humidity at a low – which leaves even the beachfront feeling pleasantly mild.

Travelling to Miami

To get to the centre from Miami International Airport, you can use the Metrorail (both the orange and green lines cover the south of Miami, whilst the green line ventures into the north).

If you're heading for the beach (or thereabouts), the 150 Miami Beach Airport Express bus goes direct to Miami Beach in under 40 minutes. Bus routes including the 42, 37 and 57 can also be found outside the airport and will take you all across Miami. It is simplest to drive around Miami, so if you're considering renting a car for your stay, the airport services most major car hire companies.

Best value if you’re staying more than a couple of days. Be warned, however, parking is at a premium.
