Plan It™ Instalment Plan Calculator
With Plan It, you can spread the cost of your eligible purchases in monthly payments with fixed fees. This means a fixed instalment plan fee will be charged monthly instead of interest on the eligible purchase. The examples below show the costs of repaying using an instalment plan compared to repaying it over the same period without an instalment plan. This is for illustrative purposes only. Your actual fees may be more or less than the amount shown depending on your plan.
For the purposes of this example, we have used an interest rate of 30% per annum. This may not be your personal rate and your actual rate may be more or less. The example assumes the monthly repayment is being made on the payment due date, and there are no other transactions on the Account. The total Plan It fee is based on the plan being created the day before the statement is generated and applied for each month of the duration of the plan.

No, any amount placed into an instalment plan remains part of your credit limit. It does not create more available spend or increase credit limit. Your available credit remains the same until the planned amount is repaid.
If you wish you free-up your credit balance immediately, you can cancel your plan and pay the purchase/amount off in full, as there is no option to make additional payments into plans.

You can create instalment plans for eligible recent purchases throughout your statement, except for when your new statement is about to start.
If you have a Direct Debit in place, you will have a window during your statement where you will be able to plan amounts or purchases from your most recent billed statement.
This will be before your Direct Debit instruction is sent to the bank to ensure it is collected correctly.

If your monthly fee has already been charged, it will not be returned. However, any subsequent fee that has not been charged yet, will not be charged once the plan is cancelled.
You can cancel your instalment plan by logging in to your Online Account or American Express® App. Under the view your plans section, you can cancel your existing instalment plan.
We’ll send you a confirmation that we’ve received your request to cancel your plan. Please keep in mind it takes up to 48 hours for your balances to update after cancelling a plan.
Once an instalment plan has been cancelled, you are unable to set up a new instalment plan on the same transaction or that amount.
- Your ability to create a new instalment plan will depend on an assessment of eligibility made at the time you seek to create an instalment plan. In order to be eligible, you must hold an American Express® Credit Card and your Account must be in good standing. You must have an eligible purchase on your eligible Card appearing on your current statement or posted to your Account but not yet appearing on a statement. You will be required to choose an eligible purchase or an amount of your balance of £100 or more.
It’s important to consider whether an instalment plan is right for you. We have some illustrative examples and a calculator to help you decide whether a plan is suitable for you, which are found on this website.
If you want to use your American Express Credit Card to withdraw cash, then an instalment plan may not be in your best interests as you would be paying off the instalment plan before your cash balance (which costs more). For this reason, using your Card to withdraw cash can affect your eligibility for an instalment plan. - When you create an instalment plan, you will be charged a monthly instalment fee. The monthly instalment fee will be disclosed to you during plan creation.
- You need to know that your monthly instalment amount and fee will be included as part of the required minimum due, meaning your monthly minimum payment will increase. The increase could be significant if it’s a large transaction over a shorter term. So you need to ensure that you can still pay this minimum payment in full and on time every month, as failing to make your minimum payment could lead to incurring a late payment fee and your credit rating may be affected.
