- Search for the flight and dates of your choice.
- Redeem a fixed points amount towards the base ticket price of your flight, which is the cost of the flight excluding taxes, fees and carrier surcharges.
Air Canada®* Pay with Points
1,000 points = $10 travel credit
Cover your fight with points directly at checkout on AirCanada.com using points for the total or part of your order.4 The minimum redemption requirement is 10 points.
How to redeem:
- Use your Card at checkout on AirCanada.com.
- Select ‘Check Points Balance’ at checkout to view your available points balance.
- Confirm the amount of points you want to use, select ‘Apply Points’ and finalize your booking.
Transfer your points

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The following Personal and Small Business Cards are eligible to earn Membership Rewards points and are automatically enrolled in the program:
The Centurion® Card from American Express, American Express Cobalt® Card, American Express® Green Card, American Express® Card, American Express® Gold Rewards Card, American Express® Business Edge™ Card, The Platinum Card®, American Express® Business Gold Rewards Card and the Business Platinum Card® from American Express. If you have the American Express® Corporate Card, the American Express® Corporate Gold Card or the Corporate Platinum Card® from American Express, you may be eligible to enrol in the Membership Rewards program. Please see Question #2 for more information on enrolment eligibility and processes.
If you have the American Express Corporate Card, the American Express Corporate Gold Card or the Corporate Platinum Card from American Express, you may be eligible to enrol in the Membership Rewards program, provided your company allows for your enrolment. Your Program Administrator will be able to confirm eligibility.
If you have the American Express Corporate Card or the American Express Corporate Gold Card, the annual fee to enrol in the program is $99, plus applicable taxes. If eligible, please call 1-800-716-6661 to enrol.
If you have the Corporate Platinum Card from American Express, and your company allows for your enrolment in the Membership Reward program, your enrolment is complimentary and your Card will be automatically enrolled in the program.
If you have more than one Card that allows you to earn points, you can ask that they be linked so that points are accumulated in the same points account. To be linked, your Cards have to be issued in your own name (including your Corporate Card).

Your points give you access to a wide range of exciting rewards. You can enjoy a selection of top-brand merchandise, travel and entertainment rewards, as well as a variety of gift cards and certificates.
Each Card that participates in the program is assigned to a reward level on our system where the reward options available with the Card are set up. Different levels have different reward options.

As the Basic Cardmember, you are the only person who can redeem the points in your Membership Rewards points account.
You may lose points in the following circumstances:
- if you do not make your required monthly payment on time
- if you cancel your Card
- if we cancel your Card
- if your points account is cancelled
- if your company cancels your Corporate Card
You can request we return lost points. It is ultimately our decision and we may agree to return lost points if:
- your Card and all linked Cards are in good standing;
- you make your request to return lost points within 3 months of the date of the Card statement showing the points removed; and
- you pay the reinstatement fee

ABOUT EARNING POINTS
You earn Membership Rewards points for eligible purchases charged to your Card. Simply charge your everyday purchases or business expenses to your Card and your points will add up quickly.
To work out how many points you earn, we multiply the Canadian dollar value of each eligible purchase by the earn rate. If the result includes a fraction of a point, we round up or down to the nearest whole point.
Different Cards have different earn rates. Please click the link for a list of earn rates and point calculation examples.
Simply follow these three easy steps:
- Remember to use your Card for everyday purchases, from gas for your car to magazine subscriptions to dining out. The more you spend on your Card, the more your points can accumulate.
- Use your Card to pay your regular bills automatically and you can earn points on the bills you're already paying.
Earn more rewards by sharing many of the benefits of your Card with someone special. Add Supplementary Cards to your account and you will earn points on their purchases too.
Annual fees may apply for Supplementary Cards.

If you need extra points for a redemption, you can purchase points at a rate of $3.00 (plus applicable taxes) per 100 points, up to 25% of the points required for a reward at the time of redemption. You must purchase points in increments of 100 points with a minimum purchase of 1,000 points.
Please note: Corporate Cards are not eligible to purchase points.
No. There is no expiry or use by date on points while you stay enrolled in the program and your Card account remains in good standing.
No, it is not possible to transfer points to someone else's points account.

Redeeming is easy. Just follow these three simple steps:
- Check your points balance. You can do this by visiting Membership Rewards and logging in to your account.
- Choose your rewards. Our website features a wide range of exciting rewards including: top-brand merchandise, gift cards and certificates, as well as premium travel and entertainment options.

Please note, if you want to redeem points, your Card and all other linked Cards must not be past due (e.g. we have not received the required minimum monthly payment due on the Card on time). If a Card is past due, we must first receive the amount owing in order for you to redeem points.
If your Card has these reward options available, transferring your points to a participating frequent flyer or other loyalty program is easy. To transfer points to one of these loyalty program partners, you must first connect your Membership Rewards points account to the account in your name with the third party. Please view the list of frequent flyer and other loyalty program participants.

No. Once points are transferred, the transfer cannot be reversed. Prior to transferring your points, please confirm reward availability with the third-party rewards program.
Once you transfer your Membership Rewards points, they become part of and subject to the terms and conditions of the third-party rewards program. Some travel insurance-related benefits that may be included with your Card may not provide coverage for trips purchased with points from a third-party rewards program. Please see the terms and limitations outlined in your Card’s insurance certificates for details. To purchase additional coverage, please visit Amex Travel Insurance.
Point transfers to Aeroplan®* and Delta SkyMiles® are instant, provided you have a valid account with them that is already registered in our system. All other transfers may take up to 5 business days.
We will process your request as quickly as possible.

- Gift cards and certificates may take between 3–5 days for delivery.

With a few gift cards and certificates, there are times during the year when availability is limited. Please consult the terms that come with the gift card for additional information, such as expiry or use by dates.
Yes. You can change the delivery name and address at checkout. However, please note that rewards cannot be delivered to a PO box or to an address outside Canada.
Once you redeem points for merchandise, gift cards or gift certificates, they are not refundable, replaceable or redeemable for cash, credit or points. Some merchandise items can only be returned if they are incorrect, damaged or defective. If you received a damaged or defective item, or if your order was incorrect, please contact Customer Service at 1-866-454-3549. Please note that any electronic goods requested for a return must first comply with one of the above mentioned reasons in order to receive a return label; all such electronic return requests must be made no later than 10 days of receipt of item in order to be honoured and must be returned in their original packaging. This policy excludes Apple products, as they are non-returnable and directly warranted by Apple.
Orders can only be shipped to a Canadian address. Orders cannot be shipped to PO boxes.
With the Use Points for Purchases program, eligible Cardmembers can redeem points for a statement credit towards an eligible purchase charged to their Card. Redemption rates may vary by Card. Funds advances, fees, balance transfers, Amex cheques and charges for travellers cheques are not eligible purchases. American Express may make changes to the types of purchases that are eligible for redemption with Use Points for Purchases at any time without notice. Eligible Cards are Consumer and Small Business Cards enrolled in the Membership Rewards program. Statement credits on your Card account should not exceed the aggregate amount of the eligible purchase(s) on your eligible Card. - Membership Rewards points are accepted as payment for a wide range of travel options through American Express® Travel Services. Membership Rewards points can be used to pay for new travel purchases, including taxes and surcharges. Membership Rewards points are not refundable. Membership Rewards points have no cash value. Travel selections are based on available space and are subject to terms and conditions of travel suppliers. For car rental companies and hotels that do not accept prepaid bookings, contact American Express Travel Services at the number listed at the back of your Card for details about how you can use your Membership Rewards points. In order to redeem points for any travel booking, the Membership Rewards Program account must be active and the Card must be in good standing. If the American Express Installment Program applies to you and you also redeem points for one or more transactions, the Installment Program will take precedence and the credit will apply to your account in the regular course. You can redeem a fixed number of points to cover the base ticket price of eligible flights up to the applicable maximum base ticket price.
The base ticket price (often referred to by airlines as the base fare) excludes taxes, fees and carrier surcharges. You will be charged for these additional costs and any dollar amount that exceeds the applicable maximum base ticket price. The Fixed Points Travel Program applies to airfares offered through American Express Travel Services Canada or on americanexpress.ca/travel.
When you redeem points for an eligible flight, the full cost of the flight, including taxes, fees and carrier surcharges will be charged to your Card upon booking. Within 5–10 business days from the date of booking, you will receive a statement credit for the base ticket price up to the applicable maximum base ticket price. If your statement monthly cycle cut date falls between the date the transaction is recorded on your statement and the date the statement credit is processed, you will be responsible for paying your monthly statement in full. The statement credit will be applied against your next statement.

By participating in the Pay with Points program (the “Pay with Points Program”) using American Express Membership Rewards (“MR Points”) when making an eligible purchase on the Canadian edition of AirCanada.com or the Air Canada®* mobile app, you agree to these Terms and Conditions for the Pay with Points Program for Air Canada (“Terms and Conditions”). Eligible purchases include only those flight purchases made directly on the Canadian edition of AirCanada.com or the Air Canada mobile app. RBC travel insurance purchases are not eligible purchases for the Pay with Points Program. You agree that Amex Bank of Canada and its affiliates (collectively, “Amex”) may collect personal information from Air Canada and its affiliates (collectively, “Air Canada”) that you have provided and that is necessary to facilitate your transaction using Pay With Points for Air Canada. Amex may share information with Air Canada regarding your MR Points account for the sole purpose of managing and facilitating the Pay with Points Program using MR Points. An "eligible Card" is a valid, Membership Rewards enrolled (a) American Express Consumer Card, (b) Business Card from American Express, or (c) American Express Corporate Card (“Corporate Card”), which must be issued in Canada by Amex. You will only be able to use MR Points if you are the primary account holder of the eligible Card. In addition, the eligible Card account must also be in good standing and not in default at the time of redemption. To participate, you must have an eligible Card and have at least 1 point in your MR Points account.
To view your available MR Points balance, go to Membership Rewards. MR Point redemption rate will be calculated as determined by Amex and may vary for future purchases.
When you choose to use MR Points for an eligible purchase, and select “I accept, purchase”, Amex will debit the number of MR Points of your corresponding selection from the Membership Rewards account linked to the eligible Card. You may select up to the total amount of MR Points required to cover the total purchase amount or up to the full value of your MR Points balance, whichever is less, to the nearest $.01. Furthermore, a statement credit in an amount equal to the dollar amount of your selection will be issued to the eligible Card account. Please allow up to 2–4 days for the corresponding statement credit to be reflected on your eligible Card account. If a statement credit is processed after your eligible Card account’s billing period, it will appear on your next statement. Remember, the minimum amount due on your eligible Card account must be paid by the due date.
If there is a processing error with your choice to use MR Points, your eligible Card will be charged, and the corresponding statement credit will not be issued to the eligible Card account for your transaction. In this event, if you would like to use MR Points for your transaction, please call the number on the back of your eligible Card and Amex will be happy to assist you.
Certain transactions on AirCanada.com or the Air Canada app are not eligible for purchases using MR Points in the Pay with Points Program, and these may change at any time and without notice and at Amex’s discretion. If you do not have enough MR Points to pay for your eligible purchase, you can pay for the remainder with your eligible Card. Your MR Points balance will typically be reduced to reflect the amount of your purchase at the time of your transaction, but in some cases it may not reflect your use of MR Points for pending purchase transactions until the purchase has been fulfilled. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have enough MR Points in your MR Points account at the time your MR Points are ultimately redeemed. If you do not have enough MR Points remaining in your MR Points account at the time they are to be redeemed, you will be required to authorize another payment method. Your eligible Card will not be charged automatically. MR Points may not currently be combined with other rewards programs to make eligible purchases using your MR Points at AirCanada.com or the Air Canada app.
Returns are subject to Air Canada’s refund policy. If Air Canada accepts a return for a transaction you made using only MR Points, Air Canada will refund the corresponding dollar amount of the purchase to the Amex Card account used. If Air Canada accepts a refund for a transaction you made using MR Points and another payment method, Air Canada may, in its sole discretion, credit the return to the other payment method before crediting the corresponding dollar amount of MR Points. Please allow 2–4 business days for the refund to appear on your statement. In neither case will the points you redeemed for the purchase be returned to you. If you no longer have an eligible Card account, Air Canada may process your refund by providing you with an Air Canada gift card.
If you use a Corporate Card to make a purchase (whether alone or in conjunction with MR Points), you agree that you are using the Corporate Card in accordance with your company’s policy. In the event that a refund results in a credit to your Corporate Card instead of a return of MR Points, it is your sole responsibility to resolve this with your company and you agree to hold Air Canada and Amex harmless in respect of any loss you or the company may incur.

A third-party program is an airline frequent flyer program, a hotel rewards program or other third-party rewards program to which we allow you to transfer your points. Subject to applicable law, we will decide how to calculate and manage the transfer of points, and we may change the terms for point transfers from time to time in accordance with the section “Changing the Terms and Conditions and the Program.” For more information on transferring points to a third-party program, please visit Membership Rewards. To transfer points to a third-party program, you must first connect your points account with us to the account in your name with the third party. Transferred points are not part of the program anymore and are covered by the terms and conditions of the third party. For example, points transferred to an airline or hotel rewards program may have an expiry or use by date. Points transferred to a third-party program are subject to the terms and conditions of that third party program. Some travel insurance benefits included with your Card may not provide coverage for trips purchased with points from a third-party program. Please review the terms and limitations outlined in your insurance certificates. Once points are transferred to a third-party program, the transfer cannot be reversed. We are not responsible for points once they are transferred. It is important that you give us the right third-party account number because we use and rely on it. You agree that we may ask the third party to confirm the account number you provide, including confirmation that the account is in your name.

When you pay only part of your purchase with credits from redeemed MR Points, the balance of your purchase (less any amount paid using an Amazon gift card) will be charged to your Card account once the order is shipped. You must always contact Amazon to cancel a purchase you made on Amazon.ca or to make any other changes to that order, even if MR Points were used to complete that purchase. All returns, changes and refunds are subject to Amazon’s return policy. When Amazon accepts a return of any item for which you used MR Points, these MR Points won’t be credited to your MR Points Account. Amazon refunds in its sole discretion to the American Express Card associated with the MR Points Account or to any other payment method that was used to purchase the item. If you no longer have an active MR points account or, if applicable, Amex credit or charge Card, Amazon may process your return by providing you with an Amazon gift card. If you use a Corporate Card to make a purchase (whether alone or in conjunction with MR points), you agree that you are using the Corporate Card in accordance with your company’s policy. In the event that a returned item results in a credit to your Corporate Card instead of a return of MR points, it is your sole responsibility to resolve this with your company and you agree to hold Amazon and American Express harmless in respect of any loss you may incur. By participating in the Pay with Points at checkout with PayPal program using American Express Membership Rewards points (“MR Points”), you agree to these terms established by Amex Bank of Canada (“Amex” or “American Express”) as well as PayPal’s Terms and Conditions. All references in these Terms and Conditions to “we”, “us” or similar are references to American Express.
Pay with Points at checkout with PayPal is only available at PayPal checkout with eligible online merchants, and these merchants may change at any time without notice. The option to pay with points will be displayed as part of the PayPal checkout process when available. Different options for redeeming points may have different values. It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the alternatives available to you and to make the choice that best suits your needs.
To use your MR Points to purchase items through PayPal, your eligible Membership Rewards program account (“MR Points Account”) must be linked to your PayPal account. Your MR Points Account is automatically linked when you link an eligible Card to your PayPal account. Any eligible Card that is already linked to your PayPal account will have their MR Points Account automatically linked, unless you take steps to un-enrol it after linking has occurred.
An "eligible Card" is a valid, Membership Rewards-enrolled (a) American Express Consumer Card, (b) Business Card from American Express, or (c) American Express Corporate Card (“Corporate Card”), which must be issued by Amex Bank of Canada. You will only be able to use MR Points if you are the primary account holder of the eligible Card. In addition, the eligible Card account must also be in good standing and not in default at the time of redemption. The MR Points Account must also have a balance of at least 1 MR Point at the time of redemption.
Amex may share information with PayPal regarding your MR Points Account for the sole purpose of managing and facilitating the Pay with Points program using MR Points. This information sharing allows us to determine your Card’s eligibility, and Amex may provide PayPal with information about your MR Points Account, including your total MR Points balance. We may also collect information that you have provided to PayPal so that we can perform our functions with respect to the Pay with Points program, including processing payments made with MR Points. Neither PayPal nor Amex will use information provided to it by the other party in support of the Pay with Points program for any purpose other than as expressly set forth in these Terms and Conditions.
To view your available MR Points balance and to see the redemption rate for MR Points using Pay with Points at checkout with PayPal, go to Membership Rewards. Your MR Points balance may also be shown to you during the PayPal checkout process.
When you choose to use MR Points toward an eligible purchase, you will have the option of choosing how many MR Points to use. You may select up to the total amount of MR Points required to cover the total purchase amount or up to the full value of your MR Points balance, whichever is less. Following your selection, Amex will debit these MR Points from the MR Points Account linked to the Eligible Card. Your Card account will be charged in full for the purchase, and a statement credit reflecting the value of the MR Points used will post to your Card account, typically within 2–4 days. If a statement credit is processed after your Card account’s billing period, it will appear on your next statement.
If there is a processing error when you try to use MR Points or if you do not have any MR Points remaining in your MR Points Account at the time they are to be redeemed, your eligible Card will still be charged, and the corresponding statement credit will not be issued to the eligible Card account for your transaction. If this occurs and you would still like to use MR Points for your transaction after the fact, please call the number on the back of your eligible Card and Amex will endeavour to assist you.
You are responsible for payment of all amounts due on your Card account by the payment due date. Statement credits applied to your Card account do not constitute a payment towards the minimum payment due. You must always make a separate payment of at least the minimum payment due in accordance with the Cardmember Agreement and billing statement.
Your MR Points Account balance will be reduced to reflect the number of MR Points used toward your purchase. MR Points may not currently be combined with points from other rewards programs when making purchases.
If you return the goods or cancel the service you’ve purchased from the seller, then any refund you receive will be credited to your Card account. Your MR Points Account will not be reimbursed. If you no longer have an eligible Card account, then Amex will issue you a cheque for the appropriate refund. Returns are subject to a specific merchant’s returns policy.
If you use a Corporate Card to make a purchase (whether alone or in conjunction with MR Points), you agree that you are using the Corporate Card in accordance with your company’s policies for use. In the event that a returned item results in a credit to your Corporate Card, it is your sole responsibility to resolve this with your company and you agree to hold American Express harmless in respect of any loss you may incur.
