Become a POS or E-Commerce Merchant
It's quick and easy to apply to accept the American Express® Card.
Call the American Express Merchant Helpdesk 16234, the call center agent will log the call and address your request to the concern team. You can expect a call from a relationship manager within three working days
The relationship manager will make contact with you along with a merchant application form. You will be advised of the supporting documents as per your business types that need to be provided.
Processing & Submitting Transactions (for POS merchant)
Look out for the following while processing and submitting transactions
- Check the Card for anything unusual
- Make sure the Card is not visibly altered or mutilated
- Make sure the Card's expiry date is valid
- Swipe/Insert/Tap the Card as per your terminal type
- Contact City Bank Merchant Services/Relationship Manager if faced any problem
- Obtain a valid approval code
- Ensure all American Express transactions are accompanied with an approval code generated from your POS terminal
- Have the Cardmember name matched with the receipt
- Make sure the name on the Card is the same as the one on the transaction slip
- Return the Card and a copy of the transaction receipt to Cardmember.

What is it?
Safekey is a 3D-Secure authentication tool to detect and reduce online fraud by adding an extra layer of security when shopping online. The Bangladeshi Cardmember database will be pre-enrolled onto the Safekey system, to ensure little to no inconveniences for the customer. With the enablement of Safekey, transaction volumes might increase due to the local and international acceptance and the E-Commerce value proposition will be enhanced due to the improved security on transactions.

How it works
- Card Member adds items to the merchant’s shopping cart and proceeds to checkout.
- The Card Member enters their credit card details and clicks to pay.
- In some instances, the Card Member might be asked to enter a one-time pin for authentication.
- If successful, the Card Member will know their pin has been authenticated and their payments has been approved.
