The Rosewood London
The former 9Pearl Assurance building is an Edwardian treasure, rich in heritage features, including a grand Renaissance style staircase winding up towards the central dome above. Before you even enter the building, as you pass through huge cast iron gates into a grand arched carriageway, flanked on either side by the former East and West banking halls (now home to the Holborn Dining Room and Scarfe’s Bar), and across a cobbled courtyard. The extensive collection of artworks includes a British bulldog statue (wearing a Vivienne Westwood collar) in the lobby; the art-themed afternoon tea takes inspiration from seasonal exhibitions; and the British cuisine in the restaurant includes excellent handcrafted pies. Rooms are simply but elegantly furnished in shades of grey, white and taupe, and there are toiletries from British Beauty brand Votary in the white marble bathrooms. Even the spa incorporates local touches with treatments including a British rose facial and a detoxifying body treatment incorporating Epsom salts

The Berkeley
This Knightsbridge five-star is known for serving one of the most elegant afternoon teas in town. It’s also home to Cédric Grolet at The Berkeley, where you can sample exquisite creations from one of the world’s finest patissiers, and Marcus, Marcus Wareing’s one-Michelin-starred restaurant, showcasing modern British cuisine.
