How Amex payment flexibility fits your lifestyle

With life’s ups and downs, it feels good to have some flexibility with the money you have to spend. Perhaps you are renovating your home, or you’ve just booked a holiday. With Amex, you can choose different ways to pay your Credit Card’s balance to suit your needs.

Plan It®

Need to manage large payments or pay off your balance over time? Why not Plan It? This payment feature allows you to pay off a portion of your Credit Card balance or one eligible purchase at a time1.

  • Amount Based Plans: Pay off a portion of your balance of $100 or more into a three, size or twelve-month instalment plan.
  • Transaction Based Plans: Pay off an individual transaction of $100 or more into a three, size or twelve-month instalment plan.

Use our calculator to see how Plan It works.

With both Plan It options, you don’t need to pay interest on the balance, just a fixed monthly fee1. Enjoy the peace of mind of knowing exactly how much you’ll need to pay each month, so you can keep on top of your monthly repayments.

Plan It is already on your Card, so you can get started today and select the transaction or amount you want to pay in instalments.

Pay over time

When your Credit Card bill arrives, you can either pay it in full on or before the statement due date, or choose to pay over time. By paying the minimum monthly payment amount due for American Express® Credit Cards, you will need to pay interest and pay the minimum payment of 2.5% of your bill or $30 (whichever is higher) each month.

Enjoy interest-free periods

Your interest-free period is the time between making a purchase and when interest is applied to your purchase. This can be up to 25 days following the end of your statement period, though it does depend on your Card. To get the most of your interest-free time, make your purchase on the first day of a new statement period and pay the closing balance by the due date shown on your statement.

Manage your Credit Limit

A Credit Limit is the maximum amount you can spend on your Credit Card. It’s set when you first apply for your Card. You can request a certain amount, or we’ll assign you one, based on your financial circumstances. If you need to increase or decrease your limit, just contact us and ensure that the amount of credit you ask for is in line with how much you can afford to pay back.
