Frequently asked questions
I’m a new Card Member, when will my Travel Credit be available?
If you are a new Card Member of an American Express Card which offers a Travel Credit benefit, your Travel Credit will be available once you have received your Card and paid the annual fee and minimum payment on your first and most recent statement by the due date. Your American Express account must also be in good standing.
When will my Travel Credit expire?
Login at www.americanexpress.com.au/travel to view your Travel Credit expiry date. Eligible Card Members will see the Travel Credit link in top right-hand side of the screen.
A new Travel Credit is issued each anniversary year from when your account was opened, and is available for you to redeem once you have paid your annual fee and minimum payment on your most recent statement. It must be redeemed within the same anniversary year and cannot be carried forward to any subsequent year.
What can I use my Travel Credit for?
You can use the $400 Travel Credit towards any eligible booking made and paid through American Express® Travel Online in a single booking, which includes:
- Domestic or international flight
- Hotel
- Car hires
Log in at American Express Travel with your account details in order to redeem the Travel Credit at the checkout page.
My Travel Credit is not showing at the online checkout. Am I not eligible?
Troubleshooting checklist:
- Are you logged in at americanexpress.com.au/travel
- Have you logged in and selected the Account/Card with the Travel Credit benefit?
- Have you used your Travel Credit already? If yes, you are not entitled to a Travel Credit until your next anniversary year.
- You are on the Australian American Express Travel site and not the US site.
- Are you the Primary Card account holder? Supplementary Card Members are not eligible to view/redeem the Travel Credit.
- Have you paid for the annual fee on your Card and is your account in good standing?
If you have gone through the checklist and still require further assistance with your Travel Credit, please call the number on the back of your Card.
Can I use my Travel Credit for a booking of less than $400?
No. If your booking is less than the value of your Travel Credit (less than $400), you will not be able to use your Travel Credit benefit.
I have more than one Travel Credit? Can I use all of them for a single booking?
No, you can only use one Travel Credit for per booking.
Can I book my travel over the phone with assistance from a consultant?
No, the Travel Credit can only be redeemed online for new bookings at American Express Travel.
Can I use my Travel Credit to purchase travel for my family and friends?
Yes, you can use your Travel Credit to book travel for other people, provided the tickets are not for resale, promotional or commercial use.
I would like to cancel the booking which I made on American Express Travel Online. Will the Travel Credit I used for this booking be refunded?
Your Travel Credit is available for single redemption only and will not be refunded in cash or credit upon cancellation of your travel booking.
The amount of the booking paid with your American Express Card will be refunded to your Card. Refunds for your booking are subject to supplier cancellation policies and any amount refunded is after deducting the supplier fees.
Terms and Conditions
If your Card has a Travel Credit benefit, the Primary Card Member is eligible for an annual Travel Credit, subject to Travel Credit Terms and Conditions available at amex.com.au/platinumreserve-travelcreditterms. The Travel Credit can be redeemed through American Express Travel Online on a single eligible travel booking by selecting the Travel Credit when you checkout. To redeem the Travel Credit, the full value of the Travel Credit (or more) must be charged to the eligible Primary Card. Eligible travel includes flights, hotels and car hire when you prepay in advance. The Travel Credit can be used for 365 days from the benefit anniversary date and cannot be used past the expiration date. To check the expiration date of your Travel Credit if you have not already redeemed it, please visit americanexpress.com.au/travel; log in and click ‘Travel Credit Details’. If your booking is cancelled, and your Travel Credit has already been used and associated statement credit applied to your account, you will forfeit your annual Travel Credit benefit and American Express may reverse the statement credits issued. You need to be able to spend on the Card to access the Travel Credit benefit and it should be credited to your Card Account within 3 business days but may take up to 30 days. Your account must be in good standing and you must have paid the annual fee and minimum payment by the due date. If you cancel your Card, change your rewards program or Card type, you will no longer be eligible for the Travel Credit.
