How often will I receive a complimentary flight?
You are entitled to redeem one complimentary return domestic Virgin Australia flight within each full membership year of your American Express Velocity Platinum Card membership. A membership year is defined as the period starting on the date on which your Card Account is opened by American Express (Anniversary Date) and expiring on the day before the Anniversary Date each year thereafter. You are eligible to redeem your complimentary flight after your first eligible spend on the Card in your membership year. A complimentary flight is available each membership year and must be redeemed within the same membership year.
How can I help to make sure I get the flight date and times I want?
We recommend booking well in advance so you're not disappointed by limited availability when it comes to redeeming your complimentary flight.
I didn't use my benefit last year can I get 2 this year?
No, if you do not redeem your complimentary flight benefit within your membership year, it will be void and cannot be carried forward to any subsequent year.
Who is eligible for the complimentary flight?
The benefit is only available to American Express Velocity Platinum Primary Card Members after the first eligible Card spend. To qualify, your Card Account with American Express must be in good standing and you must have paid the minimum amount on your first and most recent statement by the due date.
Where can I go with my complimentary flight?
The benefit is not available on all Virgin Australia routes. Each flight must be a non-stop Virgin Australia economy domestic flight between a Departure City and one of its corresponding Arrival Cities as identified on the flight table available here.
How do I make a change to a booking that I have made on the dedicated Virgin Australia website?
After a flight has been booked, no route changes or cancellations are permitted. If you wish to change the time and/or date of a booked flight, contact Virgin Australia by calling 1300 153 006 from within Australia or +61 7 3119 7006 from overseas. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 6:00am – 7:00pm and Saturday to Sunday 7:00am – 6:00pm (AEST). Time and/or date changes to a booked flight are permitted up until to the scheduled flight departure (no changes will be permitted after this time).
Are there any fees to change flights?
Fees associated with changes to flight bookings are at Virgin Australia’s discretion. You will be charged for each change to your flight booking, fees payable at the time of making the change are as follows:
(a) The standard Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre Change Fee of AUD40 including GST per person per ticket, but this may change without notice from time to time;
(b) The difference between the ticketed fare value and the fare for the new booking, plus any applicable taxes, fees and surcharges.
(c) The Airfare Reissue Fee of AUD80.00 including GST per person per ticket will apply for all changes made less than 14 days before the scheduled Flight departure. For changes made 14 days or more prior to the scheduled Flight departure, the Airfare Reissue Fee will not apply.
Virgin Australia Lounge Access
Your American Express Velocity Platinum Card gives you access to Virgin Australia lounges at domestic airports, every time you fly Virgin Australia domestically. Slip away from the crowds, sample an array of complimentary food and beverages, and take a load off before you take off. All you need to do is provide your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number to the lounge staff. Enrolment in the VA Lounge Access2 benefit required.

Each Membership year receive 2 complimentary Virgin Australia Guest Lounge Passes3 to treat friends or family to VA Lounge access, when travelling with you on a domestic Virgin Australia flight.
The Centurion Lounge®
You will also receive access to The Centurion Lounge® at Sydney International Airport (T1) and Melbourne International Airport (T2). Your Card grants 2 complimentary single entry passes to The Centurion Lounge® each calendar year. You just need to show your physical Card at the front desk4. Change Notice: As of 24 April 2025, the Centurion Lounge passes benefit on the Velocity Platinum Card will end and Card Members will not have access to Centurion Lounges from this date.
Earn up to 100 Velocity Status Credits each year. Status Credits help you jump Velocity tier status and escape the crowds and skip the queues. Be awarded 50 Status Credits5 when you spend $25,000 on eligible purchases each membership year and a further 50 Status Credits when you spend another $25,000 in the same membership year.
When you travel, don’t let an accident trip you up. When you book and pay for your return travel with your American Express Velocity Platinum Card, you’ll get domestic and overseas Travel Insurance6 – covering from lost baggage to emergency medical expenses. 4. Centurion Lounge: Entry into The Centurion Lounge® in Australia is governed by the full Terms and Conditions available here. All entrants must adhere to the General Conditions of Entry. American Express Velocity Platinum Card Members are entitled to a total of two (2) entries into The Centurion Lounges in Australia per calendar year for their Account. Complimentary access is available for the Card Member’s children 17 years and younger. Card Members wishing to bring additional guests may be subject to a charge that is to be processed on the Card Member’s American Express Card. Change Notice: As of 24 April 2025, the Centurion Lounge passes benefit on the Velocity Platinum Card will end and Card Members will not have access to Centurion Lounges from this date.
5. Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Credits are subject to the American Express Velocity Platinum Card Benefits Terms and Conditions. 50 Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Credits will be awarded when you spend $25,000 on Eligible Spend within your membership year, and a further 50 Status Credits when you spend another $25,000 on Eligible Spend within the same membership year. Membership year is defined as commencing upon Card activation and renews on the day of your Card activation each subsequent year. Eligible Spend does not include Card fees and charges, for example annual fees, interest, late or dishonoured payments, cash advances, balance transfers, traveller’s cheques and foreign currency conversion. Please allow up to 2 weeks after you meet the minimum spend requirement for the Status Credits to be credited to your Velocity account. In addition to Status Credits, Velocity members need to fly on Virgin Australia marketed flights to earn Eligible Sectors to upgrade or maintain a level of membership. 6. Platinum Card Insurance. The insurance on American Express Cards is subject to terms, conditions and exclusions (such as maximum age limits, pre-existing medical conditions and cover limits). You must use your American Express Velocity Platinum Credit Card to pay for your trip in order to be covered under the travel insurance and pay for eligible items for those items to be covered under the retail insurance benefits. It is important you read the American Express Velocity Platinum Credit Card Insurance Terms and Conditions and consider whether the insurance is right for you. We do not provide advice about the insurance or whether it is appropriate for your objectives, financial situation or needs. Plan It™ Instalments offers you a flexible way to pay off your Credit Card balance in equal monthly instalments, with 0% p.a. interest and a fixed monthly fee*. It’s already on your Card, so you can keep buying wherever you normally shop and pay later in instalments.
- You can create an Instalment Plan as long as your account is in good standing. We may limit the amount that can be transferred to an Instalment Plan.
- Each Instalment Plan will begin from the date it is successfully created, as communicated to you in your Online Account.
- Payment of your first Monthly Instalment will be due in your next payment cycle.
- You will be charged a Monthly Plan Fee for each Instalment Plan created.
- This fee will be charged each month your Instalment Plan is active and will be notified to you before you create the Instalment Plan.
