1. Points earn: Subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Membership Rewards program. You will earn 2 points for every $1 spent on eligible purchases except government where you will earn 1 point for every $1 spent. Eligible purchases do not include Card fees and charges, for example annual fees, interest, late payment, cash advances, balance transfers, traveller’s cheques and foreign currency conversion. Merchants classified as "government" include the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Postal Corporation, Federal/State and Local government bodies. Industry specific earn rate may apply when you use a payment account, payment aggregator, services of a third party or online retailers that sell goods for another merchant. For example, a payment made to Local Government bodies processed through a payment aggregator may earn points at the government earn rate. There may be tax implications associated with participation in the Membership Rewards program. You are advised to check with your accountant or tax adviser for further information.
2. There is no expiry date for points earned while in the program so long as you are an American Express Card Member, enrolled in the program and your Account is kept in good standing and is not overdue
3. Points transfer. To transfer Membership Rewards points into an Airline or Hotel Partner Program you must be a member of the Partner Program. Membership of the Partner program is the Card Member’s responsibility and is subject to the Terms and Conditions of the applicable Program. A joining fee may apply.
4. Shop PayPal with Points
Eligibility to ‘Shop PayPal with Points':
You can use your Membership Rewards with PayPal on eligible transactions (‘Shop PayPal with Points’) if you are the Primary Card Member of an eligible American Express® Card issued by American Express Australia Limited; your Card is enrolled in an eligible Membership Rewards program; and your Card Account is in good standing (i.e., not overdue or in collections). Additional or Employee Card Members, Card Members enrolled in Qantas or Velocity Direct program, Business Ascent program or Business Card Members with spend locked to one supplier or Card Members who hold an American Express David Jones Store Card are not eligible to Shop PayPal with Points.
Using ‘Shop PayPal with Points’:
To use points through PayPal, you must first sign in to your PayPal account. Once you are signed in, you can link your eligible Card to your PayPal account. Once you have linked your Eligible Card to your PayPal account, it will appear in your PayPal wallet. Any Eligible Card that is already in your PayPal wallet is already linked. After you have linked your Eligible Card, you can view your Membership Rewards point balance and its associated dollar value for use on PayPal. At checkout, select and confirm the Membership Rewards option and enter the dollar amount you would like applied as a statement credit toward your associated purchase. This dollar amount cannot be higher than the amount of available points displayed to you. You may edit your selection before completing your associated purchase. You will then be charged the full dollar amount to your selected American Express Card and will receive a Statement Credit in exchange for your points redemption. The credit will be posted to your American Express account within 2 to 4 days. Depending on when your next Card statement is due, the statement credit may not appear until your next statement period.
New PayPal Account
After you create a new account at Paypal.com/au and link your Eligible Card, you will automatically be shown the available point balance and its associated dollar value for use through PayPal. During checkout, check the “Use Membership Rewards® points for a statement credit” box, confirm the dollar amount of the statement credit you would like to receive, and then finalise your purchase order.
Existing PayPal Account
While checking out using your existing PayPal account with your existing Eligible Card on file, you will automatically be shown the available point balance and its associated dollar value for use. During checkout, check the “Use Membership Rewards points for a statement credit” box, confirm the dollar amount of the statement credit you would like to receive, and then finalise your purchase order.
Please note that the use of Membership Rewards points will only be displayed for eligible Australian PayPal sellers. American Express and PayPal maintain the right to exclude sellers at their discretion at any time.
The minimum redemption value is 1,000 Membership Rewards points. The maximum points redemption is the lower of the total transaction value or the total points available in your Membership Rewards account. The number of rewards points needed for a statement credit may vary over time. The points required for the credit value will be displayed during the checkout process, prior to submission.
The full transaction amount will be charged and appear on your account and the credit will appear within 2 to 4 days of the charge (this may not be the full transaction amount depending on how many points you choose to redeem). The credit may not appear on the same statement as the full transaction amount is charged to, but may appear on your next statement. If this occurs, you must still pay the amount due on your statement by the due date.
Returns & refunds
The Card Terms and Conditions continue to apply when you Shop PayPal with Points. You must continue to make payments as outlined on your Statement of Account and in your Card Member agreement, even when you Shop PayPal with Points. All Membership Rewards points are subject to the Membership Rewards Terms and Conditions available here.
PayPal Terms and Conditions apply.
We may change or suspend the Shop PayPal with Points feature for any reason and at any time without prior notice, including when a Card account is not in good standing (overdue or in collections).
5. Subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Membership Rewards program available at americanexpress.com/en-au/rewards/membership-rewards/terms. To transfer Membership Rewards points into an Airline or Frequent Guest Partner Program you must be a member of the Partner Program. Membership of the Partner Program is the Card Member’s responsibility and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable Program. A joining fee may apply. Award seats are not available on all routes. Please check availability with the Partner prior to transferring your points. Charges/levies/taxes may apply. The redemption of points will be administered solely by American Express. A minimum transfer amount applies. Points transferred to Partner Airlines are not reversible and American Express holds no responsibility for flight or accommodation availability, which may be limited. This is at the sole discretion of the Airline and Hotel Partners.
6. Subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Membership Rewards program. A minimum of 2,000 points must be redeemed at any one time, which is equal to $10.00 of tickets. You must qualify with the Terms and Conditions in order to redeem points. Tickets must be purchased using your eligible American Express Card and will be charged to that day's purchase. American Express will debt the Membership Rewards points from your program account and issue a credit for the corresponding dollar amount to the Card account charged for your ticket purchase. If the total number of points redeemed do not cover the entire amount of the charge for your ticket purchase, the charge for the remaining balance of the purchase will remain on your Card account. Ticket purchases failing to qualify for Membership Rewards point redemption will remain charged to your American Express Card account and are subject to the venue's and Ticketmaster's no refund/no exchange policy. All Qantas American Express Cards, Cards enrolled in Business Ascent Membership Rewards program or Business Card Members with spend locked to one supplier and Cards not issued by American Express are not eligible to redeem points with Ticketmaster
7. Membership Rewards Terms & ConditionsTo earn or redeem Membership Rewards points, Cards must be enrolled to the American Express Membership Rewards program, and your Card Account must be in good standing.

Please pay all amounts due each month. You will earn Membership Rewards points on the full dollar amount charged to your Card.
All bookings are subject to the terms and conditions of our Membership Rewards Program. For full Terms and Conditions, please visit the Membership Rewards website.
8. Travel Agency Partners: Minimum redemption amounts apply. You can redeem points for prepaid travel of a nominated value through Webjet.com.au and Helloworld with the point-of-purchase redemption capability. 9. Subject to the Terms and Conditions of the American Express Membership Rewards program available at membershiprewards.com.au/termsandconditions. Only American Express Cards issued by American Express Australia Limited are eligible provided they are enrolled in the Membership Rewards program. The amount of Membership Rewards points required for redemption is subject to change at any time. A minimum of 3,000 points must be redeemed at any one time. If redeeming with Points + Pay, the 'pay' component of your purchase will be automatically billed to your American Express Card Account and will appear on the first billing statement following redemption. You’ll earn Membership Rewards points on the ‘pay’ component of your purchase only. Partner terms and conditions apply.
10. Gift Card or voucher rewards are not redeemable or exchangeable for cash or credit and are valid for a period of minimum 3 years from the date of issue, unless otherwise stated. We are not responsible if any Gift Card is lost, stolen, or destroyed, or the Gift Card is used without your permission. Membership Reward terms and conditions apply. Normal retailer gift card or voucher conditions apply, refer to the gift card or retailer website for details
11. Points for Credit: Points may be redeemed by the Basic Cardmember for a credit on the Primary Card Account (the Card which your Membership Rewards points balance appears online). American Express may decline a Points for Credit request where the Card Account or Cardmember’s other accounts with American Express are not in good standing. The redemption of Points for Credit will be administered solely by American Express within 3 business days and cannot be reversed. Redeeming Points for Credit is not redeemable for cash via Credit balance refund.
